Aukey Mini RGB Light Review
The Aukey mini RGB light is a small color changing lamp with a built in battery they sell on amazon for about $20 or £20 UK, there are 2 color choices white or black, the one I have is the white version.
Inside the box you get a micro USB charging cable, this is fairly short so I actually do not use this and favor using my own longer cable, it's worth noting that a wall charger is not supplied, which is a pretty good idea and helps keep the packaging small and is also good for the environment, I'm also sure this move helps with international shipping of the product, considering how many variations of wall outlet there are in the world. I have found this lamp to charge fairly quickly from an apple iphone charger, a USB port on a laptop and a portable battery bank charger, the website claims a battery life of 5 hours on the bright setting and 80 hours on dim from the lamps built in battery. You also get a metal clip in the box for hanging the lamp, two magnetic sticky discs and the user manual.
Using the lamp you simply press and hold the power button to turn the lamp on, you can then double tap the top to turn it off into standby mode, double tapping the top will turn it on again. While in standby there is a status light that slowly blinks on and off, I personally found this to be a bit distracting when using this lamp as a night/morning light, I cover the status light up. When the lamp is on you can make it brighter by holding your finger on the top. The lamp is color changing and has 4 modes: Cool white, Soft yellow, Manual RGB color-cycling and Automatic RGB color-cycling, the last mode puts on a nice color changing show. To access the modes turn on the lamp and then keep clicking the power the button, the mode after soft yellow is the color mode, to choose your color you press and hold the top for about 2 seconds then lift off and press down again for 2 seconds, keep doing this in order to see all the various colors, the lamp will remember the last color. When using as a night/morning light I personally use the blue color.
The lamp has some other cool features, the bottom has a rubber loop that can be used to hang the lamp, I have taken this lamp camping and it's great to hang from the top of the tent. The bottom is also magnetic, so it sticks to most metal things, I've found the magnet to be fairly strong. The lamp is also splash resistant, the website claims an IP 65 equivalent rating with photos of it happily floating in a pool, I personally would not try this.
So in conclusion the Aukey mini RGB light is a cool color changing lamp with a built in battery with the minor negative being the blinking status light. The Aukey mini RGB light makes for a great Christmas stocking filler, In fact that's how I received mine.
